George Smith VIEW PROFILE

Maple Grove, MN - George Edward Smith, 63, formerly of Mankato, died November 30, 2015 at Abbott Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis.  A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5 at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association, Kidney Association or Diabetes Association. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

George was born July 29, 1952 in Eldorado, IL to Glenn and Flora (Evans) Smith. After graduating high school, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Business Administration while Minoring in Mathematics.  On November 23, 1991 he married Kristi Jo Keller in Mankato.

George excelled as a systems analyst and programmer. He also loved guiding companies to be as successful as possible and held several high level offices during his career.  He worked at First Bank in St. Paul and Computoservice in Mankato for most of his career.  He also started his own consulting business and was very successful at that.  George liked playing guitar, listening to music and most importantly loved taking photos.  He loved family gatherings and discussing all aspects of politics, religion and other intellectual subjects.

He is survived by his wife, Kristi of Maple Grove; sons, Michael (Nicole) Smith of Mankato, David (Connie) Smith of North Mankato, Stephen (Megan) Smith of Mankato, Tyler (Chelsea) Wingen of Good Thunder; daughter, Tiffany Wingen of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Alyssa, Dylan, Mackenzie, Abigail, Margaret; Brothers, Marvin (Artis) Smith of Eagle Lake, Russell (Emily) Smith of Winona; sisters, Pamela (Gene) Heinen of Chaska, Karen Abdelrahim of Woodbury, Dawn (Jim) Leech of LeSueur, Vicki (Albert) Emelife of St. Paul; Mother and Father-in-law Millie and John Stevens of Mankato; Sister-in-laws, Linda (Rick) Noble of Houston, TX, Vicki (Jim) Kwapick of Mahtomedi, Brother-in-law, Cary (Karen) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn, mother, Flossie, father-in-law, John Keller, brother, Glenn (Shag), brother-in-law, Abdul Abdelrahim.
