50th Reunion
Hi all you Underdogs and Scarlets!
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion. Can't believe its here already. Where does the time go. That's what pandemics do I guess. I'll be driving down from Bloomington for the Friday gathering and then on Saturday returning with my lovely wife, Holly, for the Saturday night affair.
Here's some brief background to catch up for my absence. Holly and I have spent the last 30-some years in Minnesota, living in the same house in Bloomington. We got daughter Andrea launched from here and for the last 10-15 years cared for aging parents. We were fortunate that they could spend their last years nearby. My mother moved from Mankato in 2006 and died in 2015. Holly's father died in May at 94. I don't get to Mankato very often except for an occasional function at the college. We continue to run a small scholarship there in my dad's name to help biology students.
Holly and I are both retired now and enjoying life on our own terms. Holly spent 37 years as a nurse practitioner at Park Nicollet. I spent most of my worklife in publishing and business communications in various organizations in the Twin Cities when "content" was listed at the front of the book. Needless to say I endured all the swirling currents in the computer and publishing businesses. So how things have changed.
The last year and half has been very difficult for everyone but two big events happened for us during that time. Our daughter Andrea is an epidemiologist in California and in the years prior had studied all this pandemic stuff and was very aware of the potential dangers. She managed to complete here doctorate at Stanford last spring and is continuing her studies in disease ecology through a fellowship at the University of Colorado, Denver. The pandemic forced the cancellation of her wedding last August so they decided to elope instead. We are happy they did. They just celebrated their first anniversary this week. She and her husband Cory were finally able to visit us this spring. We hadn't seen them in almost two years. She walked through the door and said, "Since we last met, I've become and doctor and a wife!" The pandemic had deprived us of attending either of them. But that's water under the bridge. We are looking forward to them returning later this month so we can continue the celebrations with all the hugs and kisses we can muster.
