Let's see:

matriculated at U of M and MSU-Mankato (et al).

worked as a garbage man, forester, innkeeper, educator, and now make mad money in retirement house-painting, developing/editing content.

married a fetching college sweetheart in '75--still going strong..., co-raised two strapping lads in the Catholic faith, paid for college, set them on the path to success (as best we could). It worked. We continue to nurture their interests and those of their own wives and children.

Michele and I split time between our residences in Colorado and the Northland; our primary is in Washburn, Wisconsin, along the shores of Lake Superior. We have travelled widely, volunteer here and there, stay active, count our blessings, seek God's tender mercy knowing full well we've done not enough to deserve it. We read, garden, bike, hike, ski, swim, entertain upon occasion, love and laugh and cry a little, too.

seeing so many former classmates--some harkening back to Washington Grade School days--listed as deceased is more than a little distressing, I must say. Please add Neal Simpson to the list; he died while riding his bike when we were all ten or eleven. His tiny desk was next to mine, and I find his loss haunting still.

"To make living itself an art, that is the goal." H. Miller

A UK band (The Godfathers) cranked out a little dance number thirty years back called "Birth, School, Work, Death." I've progressed through the first three; number four will wait.

School Story:

'Kato had its share of sterling teachers, the memory of whom I remain most fond. Mr. Gish was a mentor; I was very sad when he passed. Mrs. Erdal was kind, patient, dedicated. Only later did I learn how her life had been tinged by tragedy and loss. I wish I could tell her now how much she meant. Mr. Kerkoff was cool. He made learning fun. Mr. Wiltgen and Mr. Niemi struck sparks that flared ever after in my mind and heart. Humanities changed the arc of my life. And then there was Mr. Klar... not "sterling" per se, but Man, could that man make me laugh!

Keith Ochsner has left an In Memory comment for Patty Molloy.

On this the sad anniversary of Patty Molloy's passing, I am thinking of her fondly. It's easy to remember the first day I saw Patty. She was being introduced midyear into our class. Her desk was in the far row near the windows, morning light streaming in. All the boys loved her. I can recall, too, that year's Valentine's Day when each of us used an old carton to create a slotted box to set on his or her desk; Patty's was filled to overflowing with crimson hearts, mine among them, spilling off the stack. Valentines compounded year-on-year. Had Patty thought to keep hers, she might have realized how many people somehow felt connected, would surely miss her were she suddenly to go. One never knows though. We go into the world without looking back. And when troubles come some are lost. But for others the past can remain--potent, penetrating. Not all is forgotten. I was the silent boy across the room who misses her still. Long live the cherished memory of Patty Molloy.

Birthday greetings? Yikes!...Thank you, Jay; thank you for your kind remembrance. Sorry. I haven't viewed this site for awhile, not until news of Andy Johnson's passing brought me back to the fold. Poor guy. He was kind to me in a time of crisis, came to Mom's funeral (as did Tom Paradis, Dave Florine, and Marty Barnett). You've been been very generous, too, with your support over the years; I appreciate it. Jesus, Man, we go back to what?...age 8?! Be well, my Dear Friend. Andy has gone ahead; surely we must follow...Follow by-and-by.

Oh, boy. Tom Paradis just informed me of Andy's passing. So, so sorry. Andy was a childhood friend who stayed in touch off and on his whole life long. We knew one another well ahead of those halcyon highschool days; our families were associated through Centenary Methodist Church. As youngsters Andy and I saw Rev. Martin Luther King deliver a sermon in the sanctuary. As teens we were stalwarts in MYF and the youth choir and attended church camp ... mischievous? yes; malicious, never. July has been a hell of a month: first Mark Scheidel ('69), now this. God bless and keep you, Andy. In Him you shall find good rest.

Yes Keith! Agree on Mr. Wiltgen and Mr. Niemi. "Sparks" is apt.

Atta boy, Tom. Hello to Bridget. Forty-nine years? Haha,...you have us beat by three. I read a story about your running exploits, one that featured a daughter, too, if I recall. Amazing. Be well.
